EMDR Therapy + EMDR Intensives

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is considered one of the most effective treatments for trauma, and is both evidence and research-based. It is often the treatment of choice for clearing the emotional charge of painful experiences and memories, and has been used successfully to treat depression, anxiety, fears and phobias as well. Other issues we can use EMDR with include:

  • Stuck grief
  • Persistent, negative beliefs and thoughts about your body
  • Shame
  • Problematic relationships
  • Car accidents
  • Fear of flying
  • Fear of success or failure
  • Spiritual imbalances, depleted chakras
  • Symptoms of trauma, including past-life trauma
  • Any 'stuck' painful emotions or memories
  • Childhood abuse or neglect
  • Trauma--single incident such as a car accident, and Complex Trauma, such as early emotional abuse.
  • Workplace trauma or burn-out

How does EMDR Therapy work?

When something painful or traumatic happens, our brains can have difficulty processing or 'digesting' the experience, and so the painful memory can become stuck in our memory networks--along with the sensory information from when the experience happened. This is why certain smells, sights, textures and tastes may bring back the memory of that experience in a very clear, and often disturbing way. Even though something happened years ago, it can feel as if it happened yesterday.

EMDR helps to “unlock” those disturbing memories and experiences through Bilateral Stimulation. This supports the client in having one foot in the past and one foot in the present; they are always reminded they are safe and in control. Bilateral Stimulation can take many forms, including eye movements, tapping and tactile 'buzzers'. By alternating stimulation of both hemispheres of the brain while taxing the working memory, new insights often occur as the issues becomes unstuck, so that a client's brain can fully process them and make sense of them.

The memories themselves do not disappear, however your relationship to the memory will likely change--making the memory feel much less scary and painful, both in your mind and your body.

Clients who recieve EMDR Therapy often report feeling increased confidence, better self-image, more control over their emotions, and a sense of freedom from past experiences, phobias and fears. EMDR can also be a profoundly spiritual experience, helping you connect to, and feel more supported by your higher power, higher self, spirit guides, etc.

How Long are Sessions?

Ongoing sessions are generally 55 minutes-1.5 hours in length.

Now offering 6-Hour EMDR Intensives with Sound Healing: The benefits of 6 sessions in one!

EMDR intensives are designed to provide you with a tailored, focused therapeutic experience that promotes rapid processing, deep healing, resolution and integration more quickly than in weekly shorter sessions.

This unique format allows for an immersive session where you will engage in deeply therapeutic work, with opportunities to process and ground your experiences through Sound Healing. As a certified EMDR therapist and a certified sound healer, I am excited to offer this combination of healing modalities!

Engaging in an EMDR intensive can offer several benefits compared to traditional 1-hour therapy sessions:

1. In-Depth Focus: A longer session allows for deeper exploration of trauma and associated emotions without the interruption of a time limit.

2. Accelerated Progress: For some clients, intensive sessions can expedite healing by concentrating efforts on processing traumatic memories.

3. Cohesive Experience: Longer sessions create a cohesive therapeutic experience, allowing clients to build on insights gained during the session without a week-long break in between.

4. Reduced Frequency: Some clients may prefer fewer sessions overall. Completing significant work in one day can be more efficient than spreading it out over multiple weeks.

5. Immersive Environment: The intensive nature of the session can create an immersive experience, fostering a sense of safety and support throughout the process.

6. Several Sessions in One Session: Research shows that an EMDR intensive can be just as effective as several shorter sessions.

Who Would Benefit from a 6-Hour EMDR Intensive with Sound Healing:

People Looking for Fast Results: Clients who want to make rapid progress towards healing may prefer the concentrated approach.

Busy Professionals: Individuals with hectic schedules may appreciate the ability to address therapeutic needs in a single day rather than weekly sessions.

Motivated Clients: Those who are highly motivated to confront their issues in a supportive environment may thrive in an intensive format.

People who don't have an EMDR therapist in their location: Clients who live in rural communities or far from an EMDR therapist may come to my location and stay in a nearby hotel, creating a healing retreat for themselves. Some may even choose to enhance their self-care with a massage from a nearby massage therapist!

People who Appreciate Sound Healing: People who have experienced and benefitted from Sound Healing in the past or are curious to experience it.

Answers to common questions about EMDR intensives with Sound Healing:

Q: What does this intensive include?

A: In addition to the intensive itself, you’ll get pre and post care:

1. A 30-minute complementary consultation (virtual or in-person).

2. A 90-minute intake session (virtual or in-person) to talk about your history, symptoms and goals for your upcoming session. I’ll teach you some EMDR resourcing skills to help calm and re-regulate your nervous system and will provide you information about trauma and how EMDR works to help clear the ‘charge’ of activated painful memories.

3. EMDR intensive. In your 6-hour in-person session, we’ll address the issue you’d like to focus on, and as you process this with the use of bilateral stimulation, you’ll also process associated memories and future fears in 45-60 minute ‘bursts’ of work. These smaller EMDR sessions will be followed by opportunities for rest, reflection and Sound Healing. With Sound Healing, I use several instruments to help promote relaxation and healing, including crystal singing bowls, drums, rain sticks, rattles and chimes. I have a comfortable couch you can recline on with blankets, pillows and an eyeshade.

We’ll have a couple short breaks during the day as well as a break for lunch, and light snacks, and tea and water will be included.

4. The week after your session, we’ll meet virtually for a 30-45 minute follow-up session.

Q: What is the cost?

A: For the combined 8 hours (90-minute intake session, 6-hour intensive session and 30-minute follow-up session) I charge 1150.00.
